This can happen if you download updates from the Internet and the authentication data are not inserted correctly. Username and password setup is available in the section Update -> Username and password setup...
For inserting your username and password to the setup tab, it is recommended to use the method Copy and Paste (select and highlight the text string you wish to insert, press the key combination Ctrl-C, click in the corresponding field and press the key combination Ctrl-V to insert the text string). This method avoids problems arising from manual inserting.
Your authentication data is sent to you by ESET after purchase of the program to your contact email address you gave us when you subscribed. If you lost your username and password, see the article I lost my user name and password, how do I retrieve it.

PROBLEM:
At regular intervals, or when updating manually, NOD32 displays the error message: "Update file download failed". What should I do?
CAUSE:
This error occurs when you attempt to update and, from a certain reason, it is not possible to establish a connection to the server, where the updates are located.
SOLUTION:
a) If you download updates from the Internet
1. Please check your Internet connection. Open your Internet browser and try if you can connect for example to our webpage www.eset.eu.
2. Please check your update server configuration. You can set it here: NOD32 Control Center > Update > Setup. In the Location tab we recommend to select Choose automatically the ESET server.
3. If the server is set up according to the step 2, click on the Advanced button in the bottom right corner. In the dialog box that displays choose your type of connection.
Note: If you use modem connection or ISDN, choose Dial-Up. If not, or when you use DSL/ADSL connection, leave LAN/fixed line option.
4. When you have set up your type of connection, please check the proxy server setting once again by clicking on the Setup button in the Proxy Server tab. If you don’t use proxy server, please make sure that the Use proxy server checkbox is left unchecked. If you don’t know whether you use proxy server when connecting to the Internet, click on the Detect button in the bottom right corner of the dialog box. If the NOD32 will not detect any proxy server, we recommend leaving this checkbox unchecked (blank).
5. If you use a firewall, please make sure, that it is configured to enable NOD32KRN connection to the update server and enables downloading of updates (e. g. when using the Zone Alarm firewall: in the Programs tab set „Allow Connect“ and „Allow Server“ for both Local and Internet).
b) If you download updates from your local server
Please contact you system administrator.
Note: If you have administrator rights, please make sure that you have a correct update mirror setting.

PROBLEM: When I try to access the settings, the NOD32 displays a dialog window saying "NOD32 settings are password protected. Please enter the password, or contact your network administrator." What should I do?
CAUSE: Such notification is displayed when the NOD32 program settings are password-protected. The password serves as a protection against incidental settings change by some careless user.
SOLUTION: In case you don’t know the password, ask person who set it to give it to you – if it is a company network, ask your network administrator. If it is you, who had set the password and later forgot it, or it is not possible to contact the person in charge, proceed as follows:
1. Save program unlock.exe to your local harddisk. You can download it directly from this link.
2. Run program unlock.exe (double-click on the file icon) – a new window displays on the desktop.
3. Send us the ID number that displays via e-mail to support@eset.eu together with your NOD32 username and password that was sent to you (for verification). If you don’t know your username and password, it is possible to have them sent. More detailed info here.
4. Close the window by clicking on the Quit button.
5. Wait for your UNLOCK CODE - it will be sent back to your e-mail address.
6. When you receive the e-mail with your UNLOCK CODE, run unlock.exe again.
7. Insert the UNLOCK CODE into the "UNLOCK CODE" dialog box (please enter the code correctly).
8. Click on the "Unlock" button.
9. Click on the "Quit" button.
10. Your Control Center is now unlocked. |
|
Open NOD32 Control Center > NOD32 System Tools > NOD32 System Setup > Setup. In the General tab, tick the checkbox „Do not display NOD32 splash screen at startup“. |
| PROBLEM: At regular intervals, or when updating manually, window asking for username and password (to ESET’s server) displays. What should I do? SOLUTION: This problem occurs when you try to update from the Internet – when the authorization for update is not valid or the data are entered incorrectly. Your license expired: The authorization data are invalid, because your license expired. If you are not sure, whether your license expired, you can have sent your authorization data again with this information to your registration e-mail (e-mail will be sent only if the license is valid). You can find more details in this article. If your license has expired, it is possible to renew it directly on our website using this online form. Wrong username and password: Username and password are entered in the Update Setup. Please proceed as follows: Click on Start > Programs > ESET > NOD32 Control Center. The NOD32 Control Center window displays; click on the Update button, and then on the Setup. Now enter into the Username and Password dialog boxes your Username and Password. If you don’t know them, you can have them sent anytime to your registration e-mail as described in this article. Note: Your username and password are case sensitive (capital letters matter)- be sure „Caps Lock“ is turned off. Please watch for spelling mistakes, e. g. "l" (letter) instead of "1" (digit) or others. RELATED ARTICLES: |
